Why are guys wasting your time talking about this issue. Haitian music will never cross over anywhere. Haitian musicians and producers are not dissipline and organize enough to operate in any other markets but their own .... sad but true
Well Jackito let me put it this way, if your name is really jackito......then Carimi will start being original by playing its own songs.
If your name isn't really Jackito, Carimi will continue to play songs that are produced by other artist.
The example is to show you that Carimi is doing exactly what you're doing.......using another alias, title, label, song to identify itself or promote itself............
If you're name is really Jackito (which I highly doubt) please forgive me.
I understand what you say but it seems like by playing others songs look like a promotion for the band that they do the interpretation. Let say for example the music call "Ti bato" of NYAS i did not know that the song belong to them until i hear Passion and djakout Mizik Play and they play it better than NYAS.
Well, it seems when they play other people's musics, they seem to enjoy it more. I could not agree more. carimi is a band full of potential. They have a lot of hits. They should be concetrating on promoting their albums. That should have been their jobs. Unfortunately, not only carimi, but other techno bands are doing the same thing.
yes, point well taking. I would like for all haitian bands to play their own songs and stop copying or exploying other musician efforts. By doing that, Haitian musicians will become more professional, like Zin, Ska Sha, Nu Look. Then the audiance will appreciate your live performance. As you know there is a big difference between live music and record songs.
In summary, play your own ****. If you are not good at it, work on it.
You have a point there, yes Carimi plays other people’s music, yes Carimi has been one of the hottest bands around for the past Couple of years, yes they cant perform live and we all know y they can not perform LIVE, cause of lack of practice and lack of dedication to the music itself. A band like Carimi has the entire music industry with arms open ready to let them in, same goes for T-vice, now the most dreadful thing about this is that us the fan will embrace anything new, anything with a techno sound that makes them bounce from side to side. Most of the fans now days don’t care much about true konpa, I don’t know if you have attended Skah Shah’s performance in Queens not long ago, you would have noticed what real konpa is all about. I was not part of the era when Skah Shah was mostly in control of the konpa market, but I had the privilege to have a taste of what our music is all about. You can make a difference man!!!!
Point well taking. I too sometimes am annoyed by Carimi, tvice, konpa kreyol, and all the other techno bands playing other people songs. I do think some of these guys need to go back to the studio to practice more. I do like carimi on CD, but their live performances are often horrible. If you read an article published on Haiti Oservateurs 3 to four weeks ago, they were very crical of Carimi's performance when they played with zenglen in New York. I am not a carimi hater but they need more practice. Was anyone at Sobs 4 months ago when carimi was performing and their drum machine got stuck and was madding allot noise? I am certain if was any other bands, the public would have been complaining already.
Now back to Jakito, before you just can criticize another band you need to get your house in order as well. Jacque sauver jean, the leader of this band has put the same songs in almost of his album. If I recall correctly, he put the same song in his album more than 5 times. If you do not believe check out the last 5 cd he produced. At least carimi made the effort to give you something new on each album. stay cool
Carimi has a brand new album and has been one the best performing band for the past two years, playing all over the world. Why is this band still playing Zenglen's music and other band songs? Why don't they promote their own album? Why do like sweet mickey and t-vice while you are telling yourself that you are the hope for the new genenation of haitian music. Haitian band needs to be professional and creative. When I go to Zin, They always play their own songs. When I go to carimi I want to listen to Carimi's songs not Zin, not tabou Combo, not micheal benjamin, nor Zouk. Please respect other people effort and play your own songs.
